New Marvel Universe content was the best way to start the new year. The brand new Disney+ series WandaVision has been airing new episodes every Friday since January 15th, with the final episode of the season airing tomorrow, March 5th. The show has been such a huge hit and has been the focus of many fan theories and memes online. 

I think that may be one of the best things about telling Wanda's story through a TV show and not a movie. Fans have the space of six days to start all sorts of conversations, and then put their theories to the test with each new episode. I know I've enjoyed taking apart every detail from the show, and coming up with all new questions to have answered on Friday.

In the spirit of sharing fan-theories, I decided to ask some of my classmates what they're predicting for tomorrow's finale. To my delight, we covered a lot of ground.

Is Agatha Harkness the big bad?

My research: According to the comics, Agatha Harkness is a witch who's been alive since five hundred years before the fall of Atlantis. She first made her appearance in the marvel universe in 1970 in the Fantastic Four comics as the nanny to Franklin Richards, the son of Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman. In the 16th century, Harkness established a coven of witches in Salem Massachusetts, and then relocated the coven to New Salem, where they created a 'safe haven' for themselves to freely practice and use their magic. At some point in time, Agatha had her son Nicholas Scratch (who may or may not be her rabbit in the show, Señor Scratchy?), who became the malevolent leader of the Salem Seven, an evil gang of witches from New Salem that were determined to destroy Agatha and rule New Salem, and even the world. 

Agatha was actually more of a mentor than an enemy in the comics, and she taught Wanda how to use her chaos magic. Agatha, with the help of Wanda, destroyed the Salem Seven--Wanda used some of the magical energy unleashed in this battle to help herself become pregnant with Vision.

Unfortunately, those children were killed by Mephisto, the devil from the Ghost Rider comics (who also appears as a fly from time to time, hint-hint!!) In an attempt to help Wanda deal with the trauma, Agatha wiped Wanda's memory of her children entirely. When Wanda came to realize what Agatha had done, Wanda killed Agatha in cold blood.

Birta Elvarsdóttir was the first one to bring up Mephisto and his potential link with the kids. "I saw a fun theory of when Pietro arrived, he called the kids 'ass-kickers', and Evan and Aaron were in Kick-Ass together. He also called them Devil Spawn and a lot of people are connecting them to Mephisto now."

She was hopeful that Agatha wouldn't be the series big bad. "A lot of people have talked about her and Wanda teaming up, either to cause chaos or for Agatha to train Wanda."

However, Michael Valdes isn't too convinced. "Wanda would be dumb to do that, she's way smarter than that. [Agatha] is a wacko. I think Agatha will get away at the end of WandaVision and become the new villain for the franchise." 

What's up with that book Agatha has?

My research: In an old comic, Agatha was hosting the Fantastic Four at her house and watching Franklin. Ben Grimm, aka The Thing, spotted an old book titled Tales of Old Salem. Agatha teased him by claiming she may very well be a witch, which sent Ben running.

As another fan pointed out on TikTok, the book Agatha has may very well be a missing book from the Kammar-Taj library in the movie Dr. Strange--this may be what brings Wanda into the Dr. Strange fold in his upcoming movie. Speaking of Dr. Strange…

Evan Peters as Pietro

My theory: Given the fact that the upcoming Dr. Strange movie is titled Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, we can safely assume that the MCU is introducing the ‘multiverse’ trope in which there are multiple universes with mirror versions of our favorite characters in each. (The DC shows on the CW are really big fans of this concept)

This could easily explain how it’s possible that both Evan Peters’ Pietro and Aaron-Taylor Johnson’s can exist in the same space— ‘recast’ Pietro was simply brought to this universe by Agatha. Maybe returning Pietro back to his own universe is what brings Dr. Strange and Wanda together? 

"I think this was a subtle way of introducing characters from the Fox universe into the MCU." said Michael. "I have a feeling the two universes will merge soon." 

"I think she made him up to mess with Wanda," said Birta. "Or wild card: he's Mephisto." 

Will Vision live?

"There's no way to have him be alive, he's dead and literally disassembled in the real world." Michael said. "Wanda just created a version of him in her head to create her perfect world. I think they're going to start introducing more characters and retiring the old MCU characters, but Vision is done in my opinion." 

"I think there's a definite chance now that spectral vision is in play because they did merge in the comics, but I'm unsure." said Kasey Kelly.  

My research: Ah yes, White Vision. In the comics, Vision was abducted and disassembled in order to prevent the Avengers from having such a powerful, all-knowing weapon on their hands. When Wanda realized what had happened, they tried to bring him back to life. However, they didn't have any of his original programming as the man who loaned the Vision his personality, Simon Williams (aka Wonder Man), refused to let them reuse his brain patterns. This made the White Vision incapable of emotion and essentially erased his connection to Wanda. 

In the movies, Vision was made from Stark's JARVIS, and Westview Vision was recreated by Wanda as revealed in episode eight. If we have the personality of Vision inside the hex, and the body of Vision outside, couldn't they potentially be merged into one, back-to-normal Vision? 

Ashley Matlock thinks that Wanda may be up to the challenge. "It's possible, I mean she can alter time and stuff." 

"It's going to be Infinity War all over again." said Birta. "Now there's White Vision, and someone is going to have to defeat him, I'm guessing it's gonna be Wanda. She'll lose her Vision all over again." 

God I hope not. Paul Bettany has become my new favorite character. 

While there's only one episode left, there'll still be lots to uncover surrounding Wanda and Vision. Personally, I'm counting down the minutes until the finale.
